Accessibility Policy

Triple Crown Enterprises Ltd. (TCE) is committed to preventing, identifying, and removing barriers that impede the ability of people with disabilities from receiving access to our business services, employment, communication and information in compliance to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and Regulation 429.  We are committed to meeting the needs of persons with disabilities in a timely manner and will do so by preventing and removing barriers to accessibility and meeting the accessibility requirements under the AODA. 

TCE is committed to providing a barrier-free environment for people with disabilities based upon the core principles of dignity, independence, inclusion, integration, responsiveness, and equality of opportunity. We are committed to meeting the needs of persons with disabilities in a timely manner and will do so by preventing and removing barriers to accessibility and meeting the accessibility requirements under the AODA. 

Assisted Devices: Supports (both physical and otherwise) which are in use by persons with disabilities. Examples include but are not limited to: wheelchairs, TTY services, brail coding, text to speech software).

Disability: Any degree of physical disability, infirmity, malformation or disfigurement that is caused by bodily injury, birth defect or illness and, without limiting the generality forgoing, include diabetes mellitus, epilepsy, brain injury, any degree of amputation, lack of physical coordination, blindness or visual impediment, physical reliance on a service animal, wheelchair or other appliance or device. A condition of mental impairment or developmental disability. A learning disability or a dysfunction in one or more of the processes involved in understanding or using symbols or spoken language. A mental disorder. An injury or disability for which benefits were claimed or received under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board plan. Includes disabilities of different severity, visible as well as non-visible, including effects which may be permanent, temporary or transient in nature.

Service Animals: Any animal including dogs, which have specifically been trained for the purpose of being an assistance device to a person with a disability.

Support Person: Any person who accompanies a person with a disability, in order to help with various barriers (example: communication barriers, physical barriers), medical needs or with access to goods or services. Support Persons may be trained Personal Support Workers, family members, friends or any other individual acting in that role.

TCE will ensure that we take steps to identify and remove barriers to access for people with disabilities by:

  1. Encouraging people with disabilities to use their personal assistive devices, support animals and/or support persons.
  2. Enabling people with disabilities to access our services by offering assistive devices.
  3. Communicating with people in a manner which takes into account their disability.
  4. Allowing people with disabilities to bring their service animals or support person into our work environments.
  5. By requiring people with disabilities to utilize assisted devices where access to our work areas may pose a health and safety risk to themselves or others, while in these areas.
  6. By providing accessibility training to TCE staff who may serve the public and those involved in policy formation.
  7. By providing notice where services or facility interruptions may effect people with disabilities.
  8. Establishing a feedback process whereby anyone may comment on TCE’s ability to provide access to our business services in relation to people with disabilities.
  9. By providing people with disabilities access to our business services which is dignified, independent, integrated and as equal to standard service as possible.
  10. By providing a copy of this policy upon request.

TCE will provide accessible formats and communication supports for persons with disabilities, in a timely manner that takes into account the person’s accessibility needs; and at a cost that is no more than the regular cost charged to other persons. We will consult with the person making the request.  

If any information or communications are unconvertible, we will provide the person requesting the information with, an explanation as to why the information or communications are unconvertible; and a summary of the unconvertible information.

TCE may experience occasional disruptions whereby we are unable to offer assess to our business services to people with disabilities. In such cases, TCE will provide reasonable notice regarding the disruption as soon as possible, the nature of the issue, the estimated duration of the disruption, alternative service options where available, contact information, and the efforts being taken to restore access.

Written notice may be placed in one or more of the following locations: our public areas (i.e. front doors, lobby areas), common areas (i.e. lunchrooms), our public web site. Our property manager may be contacted where the service interruption is due to a physical barrier, corrective measures will be implemented. Notices will be removed once the issue has been resolved.

TCE welcomes feedback in respect to this policy. We consider resolution of concerns and customer feedback important in our efforts for continuous improvement. TCE will provide a mechanism for feedback in the following ways:

  1. Publicizing our contact information in public locations such as our company website.
  2. Forwarding any concerns (verbal, written or any other format) to Human Resources in a prompt and timely manner. Accepting feedback in all formats which take into account the needs of people with disabilities.
  3. Receipt of the feedback will be acknowledged by Human Resources in a way which takes into account the way the person with disabilities needs to receive the acknowledgment.
  4. All feedback will be reviewed, discussed, and any corrective actions available will be considered.
  5. Follow up with the individual providing the feed back with regards to the discussions and any resulting corrective actions.

TCE will ensure that individuals on our staff who deal with members of the public or other third parties on behalf of the provider or who participate in the development of the policy, practice and procedures, will receive on-going training. Training will include:

  1. Information on the AODA and Ontario Human Rights Code.
  2. How to interact and communicate with people with various types of disabilities.
  3. Information about assisted devices, service animals and service people.
  4. How to use TCE assisted devices equipment (if applicable).
  5. What to do if a person with a disability is having difficulty accessing TCE’s business services.

Training records will be kept in the TCE electronic training log. Training content will be publicized on the TCE intranet. This training will be available to any party who requests it.

 

TCE will also ensure that all staff, contractors and new employees will receive training in AODA requirements. The TCE policy, action plan and statement of commitment will be posted in a central and visible location for TCE staff to access.

Training 

  • Accessible Customer Service Standard and the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation training provided to all new hires, within one month of hire,  
  • Training is provided with any updates or changes to regulations. 

Planned Action 

  • Refresher training on AODA/IASR every two years for employees. Ensure all current employees receive refresher training by end of December 2023.  

Information and Communications Standard  

TCE is committed to meeting the communication needs of people with disabilities. We will consult with people with disabilities to determine their information and communication needs.

Planned Action: 

  • Compliance with the AODA protocols will be incorporated into the selection criteria for vendors for technology, website and software development initiatives. 
  • Review all emergency procedures, plans and public safety information for locations and improve written and verbal communications to reduce/remove barriers in the event of emergency. Ensure all safety plans have updated procedures by September 2024. Continue to review potential barriers in the future.  

Employment 

TCE is committed to fair and accessible employment practices. 

Action Taken: 

  • Informing of applicants throughout the recruitment stages of accommodation process.  

Planned Action: 

  • Review and relaunch of all new policies, including accommodation and return to work processes and employee supports. Ensure completion by end of December 2022.  
  • Review and relaunch all workplace emergency response safety information, ensuring accessible format and awareness to employees in emergency situations. Completion by December 2022. 

Design of Public Spaces 

TCE is committed to ensuring newly constructed or redeveloped public spaces to be accessible for people with disabilities. 

Action Taken: 

  • TCE ensures that all renovations or newly constructed public spaces meet the public space standard of AODA.
